So last night I was lucky enough to hear about a couple of cosy talks in a wooden hut afloat the Thames near Tower Bridge. Sounded intriguing, unusual and right up my street so I popped along to listen to Dave Cornthwaite and Emily Penn talk about their adventurous pasts, and their shared adventurous futures. What the evening gave me, as well as a brimmed cup of enthusiasm to grab life and live it…

was a reminder about why I like taking on challenges that stretch me far outside my comfort zone. And that’s because outside the comfort zone is an exciting place to be. The first time might be scary, but every time thereafter gets a little easier. Familiarisation with the unknown can become almost addictive. An unmarked path requires that you direct yourself and that can be a very powerful learning experience.

I was lucky enough to have a great conversation with Tom Kevill-Davies AKA the Hungry Cyclist who was full of ideas and inspiration for putting the fun back into my long training rides. I think I will be exercising on a rather more delicious diet than any I have previously!
