Since getting back on the bike from the rest week I have been fortunate to get a break from the intense heat which we had been getting in the previous weeks. Every day I have been rained upon, but thankfully I’ve not been out alone.

I have managed to talk a few people into joining me for some miles. Jeremy Hulse, Brett Gatward, Ben Harvey, Ben Allen and one of my Trans USA companions, Owen Thomas, have all been out braving the rain and the winds to chatter away and keep me occupied. One of the rides saw Brett searching out the steepest hills and sending us up them… Great if you are full of energy, not so great, if like they have been, energy slumps come thick and fast. But it was the descent of one which reminded me that wet surfaces aren’t so great for the tyres gripping the road. Descending a 20% hill with a very tight corner saw the back of the bike choose it’s own line for the bend. Unfortunately it chose to straighten the bike up and send me away from the corner, creating the most amazing noise from my frame. I am fortunate to say that with just a huge surge of adrenaline and a little more attention to the speedo, I was on with more miles.

So despite my lack of posts recently, rest assured that I am still out there in the soggy conditions pedalling around the roads. The only real difference from all previous weeks is the amount of soggy cycling kit hanging around the office and the house.
